Furry Migration  has come and gone. We will miss our friends in Minneapolis dearly until we see them again next year, some even sooner at Midwest FurFest this coming December.

Con Report

Our travel started a few weeks ago when we sent inventory and our fursuits up to Minnesota for the convention.

Tuesday before the convention the Fox flew out to San Francisco for a day trip – lots of flying this week.

We flew out to Minneapolis Thursday morning, many thanks to theBunnyNextDoor for taking us to the airport, and checked into our hotel after a lovely lunch at the First Wok in Bloomington. We met with Kurst and Trejaan for dinner at the Mall Of America before retiring for the evening.

Friday we moved to the Thunderbird Hotel (now called the Ramada Inn) for the convention. The Fox has not been to this property since the early 2000s and other than the main lobby, not much has changed. We unloaded our boxes and set up our display stand. Then had a bite to eat before selling all the books – well not all the books, but enough to cause us to need to bring more next year. Dinner with friends was nice then early to bed for bunnies and foxes.

Saturday was more time in the booth selling comics, novels, novellas, and magazines before getting ready for the fursuit parade. Many thanks to Trejaan for watching the table for us while we suited up and marched in what I consider to be the shortest 115 furson parade. Hopefully next year they increase the length of the route and remove the stairs component. The group photoshoot was fun. Then it was back to selling books until dinner, drinks, and sleep!

Sunday came way to quick. More sales, more food, more fun.

All in all the convention came and went way to quickly.

Many readers might know of runts as the small, unhealthy child of a litter. This isn’t true with the dragons. Runts of dragons are smaller, indeed – but a dragon lives eighty, maybe one hundred land-thaws, runts live five hundred or six hundred.

Runts occur once every nine or ten generations and are revered. They are treated with the utmost respect, honored by the kin, as they convey knowledge of the old as well as help raise the young.

We join Teer in his four-hundredth land-thaw and learn of his duties and his pleasures.

This comic contains sexual relations between male and female as well as male and male feral dragons. It focuses on the sizeplay relationships and includes adult situations between the characters involved.

About the Cóyotl Awards (Taken from http://coyotlawards.org/about/)

The Cóyotl (pronounced KAI-yeh-tuhl) Awards Recognizing Excellence in Anthropomorphic Literature were founded in 2012 to promote quality writing within the furry fandom.

In 2010, members of the Furry Writers’ Guild began the first conversations regarding a new set of literary awards within the fandom. The Ursa Major Awards have a long and proud history within the fandom, but their nominations and voting system are open to the general public. Many within the Guild felt that we needed a means to recognize quality work among our own, an anthropomorphic Nebula equivalent to the Ursas’ Hugos.

It would take a year of percolating and more conversations, but in July of 2011, Mary “Ryffnah” Lowd formally proposed that the Furry Writers’ Guild should launch an award system unique to anthropomorphic literature. Another six months of hammering out details would follow, and who proposed to do what changed paws several times. However, in February of 2012, Kristina “buni” Tracer formally launched the Cóyotl Awards as a means for the Furry Writers’ Guild to recognize and further the reach of quality anthropomorphic literature. Kristina Tracer ran the awards for a season and a half before Mary Lowd took over as Awards Chair.

Circles is coming to an end. Andrew French has provided us the manuscript, K-9 has provided us the images. Now the task of proofing, layout, editing, and production starts.

 Give us some time to get the book ready for production, but we expect it will be available for pre-order prior to the end of the year.

About the Creative Team:

Cara Bevan is a self-taught acrylic painter specializing in animals and nature. Growing up on a farm for rescued animals in North Carolina she grew up appreciating all of nature big and small. All the animals told her stories. They became her friends and family who she considered as human as herself. Cara never lost her child-like wonder as she began painting professionally. The illustrations for Improbable…Never Impossible were based on her family’s farm, the animals residing there with them, and her experiences of a wondrous world.

Vixyy Fox grew up among the dairy farms of northwestern Pennsylvania where it was found the everyday animals in her life had personalities and traits much the same as the people who took care of them. Among these childhood memories is the very first game she played with her siblings where they ran through the tall grass of a field pretending to be horses.

These were the good times that crafted a writing style even before the author knew how to write; where imagination was all powerful and the reality of everyday life was always somewhere else.

Improbable… Never Impossible is a gentle story about love. It is a children’s story of old with a life lesson of good morals, good reading, and beautiful art like you have never seen. In a crazy mixed up hardened asphalt world it is also a reminder to adults that they were once young with an imagination that could envision anything they wished. Worlds where animals could speak and dressed like people were common place to their hearts. Within the mind’s eye they found a wonderful and safe place where a cat and a mouse could come together in only a way that two hearts were meant to join.

Come know this place again and find the child you were… never really grew up at all.

About the Creative Team:

Cara Bevan is a self-taught acrylic painter specializing in animals and nature. Growing up on a farm for rescued animals in North Carolina she grew up appreciating all of nature big and small. All the animals told her stories. They became her friends and family who she considered as human as herself. Cara never lost her child-like wonder as she began painting professionally. The illustrations for Improbable…Never Impossible were based on her family’s farm, the animals residing there with them, and her experiences of a wondrous world.

Vixyy Fox grew up among the dairy farms of northwestern Pennsylvania where it was found the everyday animals in her life had personalities and traits much the same as the people who took care of them. Among these childhood memories is the very first game she played with her siblings where they ran through the tall grass of a field pretending to be horses.

These were the good times that crafted a writing style even before the author knew how to write; where imagination was all powerful and the reality of everyday life was always somewhere else.

Rabbit Valley does sell products like books and art.  But more importantly, we sell stories.  We sell stories made by real people like Alflor, Wolf, Kandrel, Matthew Ebel, Varzen and A. Kita, and a zillion wonderful artists.  They’re designed to bring emotion and feelings and love.

What makes that story worth 10% off today for one day only?

Did the artist put 15% less work into the book today?  Did the author skip rewriting 15% of the book to make it better?  Did an editor decide a story was good enough, might be 10% less good than the rest of the stories, but good enough?

Of course not.

We sell stories.  Stories made by real people.  Stories with real time and effort and talent poured into them.  And for anyone, especially me, to say today that work is worth 10% less is profoundly stupid.

Why the hell are we spending money on stories at 10% off because of a holiday?  Why are we literally busting doors at Wally World, killing some people by trampling for a discount on a damned television?  Buy on Thanksgiving, buy on Labor Day, buy on Christmas, buy on Memorial Day.  Never mind the meaning of the holiday, being thankful for what we have, celebrating that we do not need to be forced to work a 60 hour week, that we respect religions, and that we look back on our fallen in war.

So, if you buy something from Rabbit Valley this weekend, buy it to read it, buy it to enjoy it, and then if you wish, pass the book to another person.  Share the story.  Know you helped pay the rent of the person who wrote it.  Respect the work, respect the artist, and thank you for supporting them.  We will keep bringing you the stories as we always have for over 15 years.

That’s about it for this week! Time for the Fox to clean house and go food shopping.

We wish all our family, friends, relations, furries everywhere, and anyone reading this a Happy New Year. May your celebration, if you choose to celebrate, be filled with merriment and good times.

2014 was a good year for us at Rabbit Valley® Comics. We released many new books, shipped lots of orders, and increased the number of conventions we attend by a lot! 2015 will be more of the same – new books, shipping lots of orders, and hanging out with people at conventions and events.

On a personal note we, the Bunny and Fox of Rabbit Valley,  also had a good year. We celebrated ten years of being legally married, fifteen years together, and seventeen years of running Rabbit Valley. Bunny had a very positive move in his day job and Fox is still working from home for his clients.

In 2015 both Bunny and Fox are going to work on health issues – starting with visiting all the doctors in January – Eye Doctor a week from Monday, Gastroenterologist a week from Tuesday, GP later in the month and dentist… Need to be healthy for life! Weight loss has been steady for both critters too!

All in all the 2014 rotation around the sun was a good one. Sure there were some downs along with the ups, but we choose to focus on the good stuff and leave the less good behind.
